Problem Definition

Problem

Small businesses and budget-conscious professionals often struggle to find an ERP system that integrates all the necessary features within their financial constraints. Off-the-shelf solutions can be costly, inflexible, and overburdened with features they may not need.

Our Plan

User Rasearch

Behavior Insights

Conducted user research through surveys, analyzing responses to identify key patterns and trends, helping us prioritize user needs effectively.
A significant finding from the survey was that while 70% of participants were unfamiliar with the term ERP and its meaning, they all recognized and understood CRM. This indicated that users were already familiar with similar business management tools but were unaware of the distinctions between them. This insight helped shape the product’s onboarding experience and messaging, ensuring that key differences and benefits of an ERP system were clearly communicated to users.

Based on the survey insights, I created user personas, journey maps and user flowchart to gain a deeper understanding of user behaviors and pain points, ensuring our design approach was aligned with the needs of the target audience.

Founder Insights

An in-depth interview with the app's founder provided valuable insights into the product's vision, key features, and unique value.

Competitive Analysis

A thorough competitive analysis was then conducted to assess market alternatives and highlight the product's advantages such as:

  • Customization: Unlike many ERP solutions, Nexus offers modular features that allow users to tailor the system to their specific business needs.
  • Affordability: Designed with small businesses and entrepreneurs in mind, Nexus provides a cost-effective solution without compromising on essential functionality.
  • User-Friendly Interface: Simplified navigation and intuitive design make it accessible even to users with no prior ERP experience.
  • Unique Features: Nexus includes industry-specific modules, such as real estate and law management, which are not commonly found in standard ERP systems.
  • All-in-One Solution: It consolidates essential business operations like inventory management, sales tracking, and financial management into a single, streamlined platform.

Researching System Functions

I had to familiarize myself with each niche of the system to ensure a seamless user experience. For example, when designing email templates, internal chat interfaces, sales modules, or inventory screens, I needed to understand how each function operates and what essential features should be included on each screen. This allowed me to design intuitive and efficient interfaces that would provide users with a smooth and effective experience.

Wireframing

Layouts and Interactions

Created low-fidelity wireframes to map out the structure and layout of the app, focusing on organizing content and defining interactions.
These wireframes helped to establish the basic flow and functionality of each screen, allowing us to visualize user journeys, test design concepts quickly, and ensure an intuitive layout before moving on to higher-fidelity designs.

Visual Design

"Nexus" refers to a connection, link, or a bond between different elements or entities. It implies a relationship or interaction between things. The ERP system connects and integrates various aspects of a business, such as finance, inventory, and sales, into a cohesive whole. The inspiration for the logo design was the buttons I use in the app itself and also it looks like a “hamburger” menu that you can choose from just like the app that has a lot of options. in the letter "E" you can see geometric elements that are intentionally simple and minimalist, contributing to an uncluttered design aesthetic.

The Colors

Teal is often seen as a balanced and harmonious color. It is a versatile color that can adapt to various situations. It conveys the adaptability and scalability of the Nexus system to accommodate diverse business needs.
The greenish-blue hue of teal also represents a fresh start or renewal, which is relevant when organizations implement ERP systems to enhance their operations. ERP systems are critical tools for businesses- handling sensitive data and complex processes.

Blueish dark signifies professionalism and trust, assuring users that our app is a reliable and secure solution for their business needs.

Gamification

Motivation at work

Gamification involves applying game-like elements to non-game contexts to enhance user engagement and motivation. By incorporating features like contests, rewards, and progress tracking, it encourages users to achieve goals while enjoying the process.
To boost engagement and motivation within the Sales section, I integrated a gamification feature that fosters healthy competition. The Sales Contest page allows salespeople to participate in contests, track their progress, and earn rewards, creating a dynamic and goal-oriented environment that encourages team participation and drives performance.

Challenges & Learnings

Overcoming Obstacles

Throughout the project, I faced several significant challenges. One of the biggest difficulties was learning and understanding the broad range of features the software offers, each of which required tailored and focused design.
Additionally, working with multiple screens was challenging, I had to find a balance between presenting all the necessary information without overwhelming the users. I wanted the system to be intuitive and user-friendly for all users, even those who had never used an app like this before. I learned how to design experiences that focus on the core needs of the users, while maintaining intuitive navigation and clean layouts to ensure a smooth and focused user experience.
